How to Access Advanced Settings for My ZEN34 Remote Switch on SmartThings
print icon

The ZEN34 Remote Switch is a neat device - let's make sure it's set up right to take advantage of all it can do!

A custom device handler is required for the ZEN34 only to access the direct association settings. Otherwise the device will work well with the app out of the box.

To access the advanced settings and change the color of the LED indicators assigned to each paddle or just disable the LED altogether, simply click on the device in your app once it's added, then tap the 3 dots in the top right corner and click Settings to adjust the LED indicator behavior. Once you've made the changes, simply exit the screen for them to save and tap the top paddle on the ZEN34 7 times quickly to wake the device up so the changes are recorded right away.

The only thing you would need the custom handler for is to use direct association for programming the device, rather than using the default multi-tap triggers which can be easily accessed from the SmartThings app. Note that direct association will only work if the other device you'd like to control is a Z-Wave product added with the same level of security (S2 Authenticated) as your ZEN34 Remote Switch. It could be useful when using the Remote Switch as a virtual 3-way dimmer for an existing Z-Wave 700 Series dimmer like the ZEN72 or ZEN77 model.

If you would like to install the custom handler to set associations between the Remote Switch and other Z-Wave devices, just follow these steps:

  1. Before you add the device to SmartThings, log in here with the same login and password you use for your SmartThings app.

  2. Click on My Device Handlers in the top menu.

  3. In the top right corner, click on "Create new device handler" and choose "from code" from the top tab menu. You'll be presented with a blank area where you can paste the code from the following link. Please click on this link to access the code for the handler, then copy ALL of the code from the page.

  4. Next, scroll to the bottom and click Create.

  5. Now click Save, then click Publish > For Me.

You should now see "Zooz Remote Switch ZEN34" in your list of device handlers.

Once you have the handler installed, check out our inclusion instructions to pair the remote to your SmartThings hub. If you added the device to your hub before installing the handler, you can assign the handler to it manually. Here is how to do it:

  1. Make sure the unit is within direct range of SmartThings
  2. Stay in the IDE portal (where you just installed the handler) or again, log in here if you already closed it
  3. Click on My Devices in the top menu
  4. Click on the new Zooz device
  5. Scroll down to the bottom and click on the Edit button
  6. Go to Type and select "Zooz Remote Switch ZEN34" from the drop-down menu, it'll be at the bottom of the list (beyond alphabetical order)
  7. Click the Update button on the bottom of the page

To set direct association between your Remote Switch and a different Z-Wave device, you will need to access the Settings again and follow the programming instructions here.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions about adding the handler or about your new ZEN34 Remote Switch!
