Can't Add My ZEN15 Power Switch to SmartThings

Inclusion issues are common in the world of Z-Wave, but they're usually easy to solve.

It's time to try exclusion! Even if your Power Switch was never successfully added to SmartThings, exclusion is a kind of soft reset. It can helps with a variety of inclusion and configuration issues.

For the new SmartThings app:

  1. Tap on your hub in the home page of the app
  2. Tap the three dots in the top right
  3. Tap Z-Wave Utilities
  4. Tap Z-Wave Exclusion
  5. While the app is searching for a device, click the Z-Wave button on the device 3 times quickly
  6. The app will indicate when the device is successfully removed. Tap Done

For Classic SmartThings app users

  1. Tap the menu icon in your SmartThings app
  2. Tap Hub is online
  3. Tap Z-Wave Utilities
  4. Tap General Device Exclusion
  5. The app will show this message: “Please follow the manufacturer’s instructions to remove the Z-Wave device from My SmartThings.” There will also be a spinning circle next to the message “Exclusion Mode Active”
  6. On your Power Switch, press and release the Z-Wave button 3 TIMES QUICKLY
  7. The app will confirm device exclusion
  8. Tap Done

Once exclusion is completed, try including the ZEN15 Power Switch again by clicking on Add Thing in your SmartThings app and pressing and releasing the Z-Wave button 3 times quickly once again

And if that still didn't solve the problem, here are some other things to try:

  • Try the exclusion process once again. It's possible that the commands just didn't go through the first time.
  • Bring the Power Switch closer to SmartThings. If it includes successfully from a different spot, the previous spot may be out of range.
  • Once you put SmartThings into inclusion mode, press and release the Z-Wave button very quickly more than 3 times to ensure the command has gone through.
  • If you are trying to include the device as a secure one, please make sure your controller supports AES signal encryption.

If you're still seeing issues with the switch after exclusion and re-inclusion, please let us know
