Having trouble including your ZEN12 Motion Dimmer? Excluding the device may help.
Even if your ZEN12 was never initially added to SmartThings, exclusion simply acts as a soft reset. It can help with a variety of configuration and inclusion issues.
ZEN12 Exclusion Steps
-
Open your SmartThings app and locate your SmartThings hub under Devices. Tap the hub to see the device details.
-
Tap the three dots in the upper right hand corner and tap Settings
-
Tap Z-Wave Utilities
-
Tap Exclusion
-
While the app is searching for a device, click the main button 3 times; all the LED's will blink magenta. The LED's will turn solid green for 2 seconds when excluded successfully and the LED's will be solid red for 2 seconds if exclusion fails.
-
The app will indicate when the device is successfully removed. Tap Done.
Once exclusion is confirmed successful, try including the ZEN12 Motion Dimmer again.
Additional Troubleshooting Steps
If exclusion failed to solve the problem, here are some other things to try:
-
Try exclusion again. It's possible that the command didn't go through the first time.
-
Try a factory reset for the device, then try including it again.
-
Confirm the device LED is responding to the exclusion and reset prompts. If it is, reboot your SmartThings hub to reset the Z-Wave radio.
-
Check the distance between the hub and the switch, as well as how many mains-powered Z-Wave devices you currently have in your network. If the switch is responsive but you're unable to include, try bringing the hub closer to the switch to process inclusion. (Note: metal switch boxes and other interferences can affect proper inclusion).
-
If the LED is not responding to exclusion or reset, double check you can physically control the load when toggling the switch manually. If not, remove the switch and contact our team with images of the original fully working installation with the dumb switch/es installed so we can provide wiring instructions.
