How to Add Your ZSE11 Q Sensor to Your Z-Wave System

Join? Pair? Add? However your Z-Wave system refers to it, inclusion is a common term for getting your ZSE11 sensor to be a part of your Z-Wave system.

You'll need to include your sensor before mounting it in its final location. If you ever need to re-include the device (after exclusion or reset), the same steps below would apply.

The sensor can only be powered by a single power source. If it's powered by both USB and battery, it may damage it and it could not work on battery reliably afterwards.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Insert the included battery or power the sensor via USB. Double check the battery is inserted properly if powering by battery. The LED indicator should start blinking once powered up.
  2. Bring the sensor near its mounting location to help the hub find the most efficient communication route to the device.
  3. Put your hub into inclusion/pairing mode in your app's interface (each hub is different, so refer to the hub's manual if you're unsure about the process)
  4. Click the Z-Wave button 3 times quickly
  5. The LED indicator will start blinking to confirm inclusion mode and turn off once inclusion is completed

*If you’re using an S2 hub, it will ask you to enter the DSK key or scan the QR code printed on the back coversticker to complete SmartStart inclusion.

The sensor will automatically pair as a repeater if connected to USB power, no special button sequence required. NEVER include the sensor powered with USB and then switch over to batteries. Your hub will recognize the sensor as a Z-Wave repeater and the batteries will drain quickly. Always include the sensor powered by batteries only if you’re planning to use it as a battery device.

If you're having trouble adding your sensor to your network, try excluding the unit and then giving inclusion another go.
