How to Add Your ZSE11 Q Sensor to SmartThings

Include the Q Sensor to your Z-Wave network in just a few easy steps!

You will need to install the custom lua Edge driver for your sensor to be correctly recognized on SmartThings. Click here for detailed installation instructions.

Once the Edge driver is installed, you can go ahead and include the ZSE11 sensor to your network:

  1. Power the sensor: Insert the batteries or the USB cable. The LED indicator will start blinking.

Note: The sensor can only be powered by a single power source. If it's powered by both USB and battery, it may damage it and it could not work on battery reliably afterwards.

  1. Bring the sensor within direct range of SmartThings
  2. Tap the plus icon in the home screen
  3. Tap Device
  4. Tap "Scan nearby" (in the corner of the screen)
  5. While the app says "Scanning...", click the Z-Wave button 3 times as quickly as possible
  6. The app will indicate when the device connects. The LED indicator will start blinking to confirm inclusion mode and turn off once inclusion is completed.
  7. Tap Edit to rename the device, and tap Done to save the name
  8. Tap Done to complete the setup

The sensor will automatically pair as a repeater if connected to USB power, no special button sequence required. NEVER include the sensor powered with USB and then switch over to batteries. Your hub will recognize the sensor as a Z-Wave repeater and the batteries will drain quickly. Always include the sensor powered by batteries only if you’re planning to use it as a battery device.

Once the sensor is mounted in its target location, we recommend performing network repair to optimize connectivity, especially if the unit was added near the hub and then moved to its installation location. This will help your SmartThings hub find the best communication route to the sensor.

If your Q sensor is having trouble pairing, we'd recommend excluding the device first. It will help with any configuration issues.
