Can't include the ZAC36 to your SmartThings hub? It may need to be excluded!

You can exclude or remove any Z-Wave device from a Z-Wave network even if it hasn't been added before. The process will help SmartThings recognize the device more easily and allow you to include if it was having issues during the inclusion process.

Give these steps a try before trying to include your Valve Actuator again:

  1. Open your SmartThings app and locate your SmartThings hub under Devices. Tap the hub to see the device details.
  2. Tap the three dots in the upper right hand corner and tap Settings

  3. Tap Z-Wave Utilities
  4. Tap Z-Wave Exclusion
  5. While the app is searching for a device, click the Z-Wave button on the device 3 times very quickly
  6. The app will indicate when the device is successfully removed. Tap Done

You can give the inclusion steps another go after you've received a confirmation from SmartThings that the  was successfully excluded.

Here are other troubleshooting steps to try if you're still having issues:

  • Perform the exclusion steps again in case the command did not register correctly the first time (should be confirmed by your hub).
  • If the device excluded successfully, then that means the device is ready to pair - if it doesn't include with 3 quick clicks of the Z-Wave button, try 4-5 clicks as quickly as possible.
  • Make sure the device is within range of the hub or another non-battery powered Z-Wave device. If the device is installed far away, try adding a Z-Wave signal repeater between the ZAC36 and hub. If you have a hand-held secondary hub, try using it to include the device. This is especially helpful if the Valve Actuator is located a location that can often come with range and connectivity issues due to metal elements or limited Z-Wave neighbors.
  • Give these connectivity troubleshoots a try if the device was added hub but isn't registering Z-Wave commands.
