There are two versions of the ZEN30 Double Switch - and they each use a different LED driver!
If your lights are flickering after installing your ZEN30, there may be a driver compatibility issue between the dimmer and bulbs in your installation. The first things to check are if your bulbs call for a specific dimmer and which version of the ZEN30 Double Switch you have:
- Version 1.0 which uses MOSFET ( trailing edge driver )
- Version 2.0 / 3.0 which uses TRIAC ( leading edge driver )
Version 1.0 (MOSFET)
If your LED bulb uses a leading edge driver, this could cause your lights to flicker when turning on/off or dimming since Ver1.0 of the ZEN30 uses a trailing edge driver.
To help reduce or eliminate the flickering, we'd recommend either adding a bypass to the load or trying a ZEN22/ZEN72 dimmer since these models use TRIAC (leading edge). Alternatively, you could also try Version 2.0 of the ZEN30 Double Switch since it also uses TRIAC.
Version 2.0 / 3.0 (TRIAC)
If the LED bulbs in your installation use a trailing edge driver, this may lead to flickering since the ZEN30 Ver2.0 / 3.0 uses a leading edge driver.
The solution in this case is to either add a bypass to the load, as mentioned above, or trying a ZEN27/ZEN77 dimmer since these models use a MOSFET (trailing edge / ELV dimming).
Important to Note for Both Versions
- Check if the LED bulbs you're using are labeled as dimmable. Regular on/off bulbs are not compatible with dimmers and will not perform correctly.
- Never use a Z-Wave dimmer with smart bulbs unless you disable paddle control on them first. Dimming smart bulbs from a wall dimmer may damage your equipment.
Please let us know if you have any questions about the compatibility for your version of the ZEN30, we'll be happy to help.
