My ZSE40 is Draining the Battery Quickly on My Z-Wave System

If your Z-Wave system allows you to select the security level of a device during inclusion, then your ZSE40 battery issues may be solved.

The security level of your ZSE40 sensor can influence its battery life and responsiveness due to how some systems implemented S0 security integration. We recommend including it without security to optimize your sensor's performance.

 

You should make sure your sensor is paired with your network and fully configured before installing it in its final location. The inclusion process may look a little different if your hub system has different steps for choosing the security level of a device. Here are the steps to include your sensor: 

 

1. Insert the sensor's battery, double checking that it's inserted properly (LED indicator will flash different colors)

  • If your sensor previously was unresponsive or showed "Low Battery", we recommend using a fresh battery to eliminate any power related issues.

 

2. Bring the sensor near its target location, without mounting it yet.

  • Pairing it from the final installation spot will help the hub find the most efficient communication route to the device. However, if your sensor was having issues, we would recommend pairing it close to the hub to confirm it's working properly and refreshing your Z-Wave network (if your hub supports such a feature) once the sensor is installed.

 

3. Put your hub into inclusion/pairing mode in your app's interface (refer to the hub's manual if you're unsure about the process as the process looks a little differently for each hub)


4. Once your hub is in the proper inclusion mode, click the Z-Wave button on the sensor TWICE quickly with a paperclip


5. The LED indicator should blink blue (or depending on the temperature in the room it may blink green or orange) to signal communication and then turn off to verify the device has been included.

 

The security level the ZSE40 supports is S0, which is considered paired securely for the ZSE40, so your system should now display the sensor as added without security.

 

If you weren't able to join the 4-in-1 sensor without security, you can always exclude it and try again. Or if it did pair un-securely, but is still having issues, then you can try these additional troubleshoots. We recommend monitoring the battery level after connecting it without security to ensure the issue is resolved.
