How to Add Your ZSE18 Motion Sensor to Hubitat
print icon

Hubitat integrated the ZSE18 Motion Sensor, making it easier to join your hub’s network.

You should have direct access to the sensor’s advanced settings. If you aren’t seeing the settings in device view on Hubitat, you may need to check your Hubitat platform is up-to-date and install the custom device driver for the ZSE18.

If you're using the Hubitat C-7 hub, for now you'll want to select Include without security and add the ZSE18 without security to successfully include the device. Older Hubitat hubs don't support S2 security so you can go ahead and follow the instructions below to include your sensor.

Here are the steps for including the ZSE18 to Hubitat, depending if you’re using battery or USB power:

Smart Start Inclusion

On the Hubitat app:

  1. Open the Tools tab (wrench icon on the bottom)
  2. Scroll to the bottom, select Z-Wave
  3. This will take you to a screen where you can select either Smart Start or regular inclusion
  4. Select Smart Start
  5. This will take you to the smart start inclusion list. Devices will be displayed there that are in the process of inclusion through Smart Start.
  6. Select the QR symbol in the top right to open the camera for the DSK scan
  7. Power the device (important to do this AFTER QR scan)
  8. The device integration will begin. The window will appear asking you to name the device; click Save after naming
  9. Finishing inclusion may take a few minutes

If you have any issues with Smart Start Inclusion on Hubitat, please review this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sf-Fldjb0to. The steps should be the same whether you have a C-7 or C-8.

Manual Inclusion

Add the ZSE18 sensor, powered by battery:

  1. Keep the sensor's battery in the device for at least a minute

  2. Open Hubitat in your Internet browser

  3. Go to Devices

  4. Click on Discover Devices in the top right corner

  5. Click on Z-Wave

  6. Click on Start Z-Wave Inclusion

  7. While the app says is in inclusion mode, press and release the Z-Wave button 3 times as quickly as possible (the LED indicator will start flashing)

  8. Rename and confirm the found device

Add the ZSE18 sensor, powered by USB:

  1. Make sure the sensor is within direct range of SmartThings

  2. Connect the sensor to the USB cable and power adapter. Wait at least 30 seconds.

  3. Open Hubitat in your Internet browser

  4. Go to Devices

  5. Click on Discover Devices in the top right corner

  6. Click on Z-Wave

  7. Click on Start Z-Wave Inclusion

  8. While the app says is in inclusion mode, press and hold Z-Wave button for at least 5 seconds. Release the button as soon as the LED indicator starts blinking. If you hold it for too long, inclusion will fail.

  9. Rename and confirm the found device

If the sensor is having problems connecting to Hubitat, try the exclusion process first. It will help the Motion Sensor configure properly, even if it never connected to the hub.
