The ZEN78 High Power Relay is a 40A-rated Z-Wave relay designed for reliable switching of high-power 240VAC applications. With built-in overcurrent protection (triggering at 40.5A) and dual double-pole relays, it can disconnect both hot legs (L1 and L2) simultaneously—making it ideal for large appliances and heavy-duty systems.

It also includes:

  • Dry contact switch terminal for a wired mechanical switch (manual on/off).

  • Onboard action button for manual control, Z-Wave inclusion/exclusion, and factory reset.

  • Integrated temperature sensor for protection and monitoring.

⚠️ Important Note: The ZEN78 is not IP66 rated and must be installed indoors. Outdoor use requires additional weatherproofing within the device’s temperature specifications.

Common Use Cases (240VAC up to 40A)

  • Pool pumps

  • Electric water heaters or boilers

  • Air compressors

  • Air conditioners (mini splits)

  • High-power outlets

  • Shop vacuums

  • Commercial lighting

  • Heated driveways

  • EV charging stations

  • High-power appliances (ovens)

  • Electric heaters (garages, warehouses)

Recommended Accessories for the ZEN78 Relay

To ensure the best performance and safety when installing the ZEN78 High Power Relay, consider the following compatible accessories:

1. Mechanical Switches (Toggle or Rocker Style)

  • The ZEN78 supports a standard dry contact mechanical switch.

  • Either toggle or rocker switches can be used for straightforward manual control.

  • The switch must be dry contact only (no voltage applied to the input).

2. Momentary Switches (Push Button)

  • For advanced control, the ZAC99 momentary switch is a compatible option.

  • Momentary switches provide short press/hold functions, useful for triggering automations and scenes.

  • As with mechanical switches, the input must remain voltage-free.

3. Outdoor Weatherproofing (If Installed Outdoors)

Since the ZEN78 is not weather-rated, outdoor installations require:

  • SOCKiTBOX (medium or large) – a heavy-duty, weatherproof enclosure designed to protect electrical connections from rain, snow, and dirt.

  • Always confirm installation remains within the device’s operating temperature range.

Summary

The ZEN78 High Power Relay is a powerful and versatile Z-Wave solution for automating and protecting high-load 240VAC applications. To get the most from your installation:

  • Use a standard toggle or rocker mechanical switch for basic manual control.

  • Add a ZAC99 momentary switch for flexible automation.

  • Protect outdoor installations with a SOCKiTBOX enclosure.

By pairing the ZEN78 relay with the right accessories, you can maximize safety, functionality, and durability while ensuring reliable performance for your heavy-duty smart switch setup.
