Can you control the ZEN05 Outdoor Smart Plug manually, but find it is not responding to Z-Wave commands? Try the troubleshooting steps below to resolve the issue!
While the ZEN05 Outdoor Plug is a Z-Wave Plus device that has range of up to 300 feet (line of sight); interferences like stone, metal, and thick walls can substantially shorten the range for all Z-Wave devices. The ultimate range is determined by the specific structure of your home and the strength of your mesh network (hardwired or non-battery powered devices).
Rebuild Routes
If you're seeing connectivity issues, we first recommend rebuilding routes for your Home Assistant network. This function refresh the connections between your hub and devices so that the hub can find the most efficient route to each device.
-
Settings > Devices and Services > Z-Wave > Cogwheel
-
Options (Manage network routes and remove devices) > Discover and assign new routes > Rebuild
-
Remember to manually wake all battery powered devices to update routes.
Additional Troubleshooting Steps
If healing the network didn't resolve the issue, check out the steps below:
-
Try excluding and re-including the ZEN05 Smart Plug directly from the installation location. The hub may not have devised the most efficient route of communication to the device; exclusion can help refresh these connections.
-
Try moving the Outdoor Plug closer to the hub (make sure you exclude and re-include it from the new spot). If this resolves the issue, the previous spot may have been out of range.
-
A signal repeater may help! If you have a non-battery powered Z-Wave device available, such as a switch, relay, plug, etc., try including it in a spot halfway between the ZEN05 and the hub. If the issue is caused by interference or range, a signal repeater can help strengthen and stabilize connectivity. After adding the repeater, it's a good idea to heal your network once more.
Factory Reset
First, make sure the plug is powered, then follow the steps below:
-
Click the Z-Wave button twice and hold it the third time for 10 seconds.
-
The LED indicator will flash green 3 times to confirm a successful reset.
