If your ZEN71 Switch is offline or unresponsive, it could be out of range or experiencing a connectivity issue.

Luckily, there are a few things you can try to improve the connection between your switch and hub. Hubitat has a very useful feature for updating your network's connections. This process is called Repair Z-Wave and will only take a few minutes. We recommend checking that your Hubitat is running on the latest platform version before repairing your network connections with a Z-Wave Network Repair.

Use these steps to perform the Z-Wave Repair:

  1. Open Hubitat in your Internet browser

  2. Go to Settings

  3. Click on Z-Wave Details

  4. Click on Repair Z-Wave

A "Z-Wave Network Repair finished" message will confirm the successful completion of the process. Once it's done, try sending a Z-Wave command to your ZEN71 Switch.

If your switch is still offline, you can give these troubleshoot steps a try:

  • Try excluding and re-installing the ZEN71 in case the hub didn't find the best path to the device the first time.

  • If possible, try adding another non-battery powered Z-Wave device, or dedicated Z-Wave signal repeater, between the switch and hub. This will improve communication between the devices. Once you’ve added one, perform another Network Repair so that the hub can update the communication route.

  • Another important set-up detail is the material of your switch box. Metal switch boxes, as opposed to plastic, can shorten range and make connectivity unreliable. Even with a 700 series Z-Wave chip, metal is pretty effective at disrupting Z-Wave signals, so if your ZEN71 Switch is inside a metal box this may be why it keeps going offline.

  • The switch could also just be out of the hub’s range and needs to be installed in a closer location to improve communication. Once installed, perform another exclusion and add the switch from the new location.

Send us a message if your ZEN71 Switch still has trouble staying connected. We’ll be happy to help.
