The sensor will work great with SmartThings out of the box.

You can also add the custom lua Edge driver to access all the advanced settings for the device. Follow the instructions here to install the Edge driver.

Here is how to quickly include the ZSE43 to your hub:

  1. Power the sensor up
  2. Tap the plus icon in the home screen of the SmartThings app
  3. Tap Device
  4. Tap "Scan QR code." Using the included triangle tool, carefully open the sensor's cover. Scan the QR code printed on the inside of the battery cover of the sensor
  5. On the SmartThings app, select the hub and room you'd like the device added to and click Next
  6. When the app says "Get your device ready to connect", pull the battery tab to power the sensor, and click the Z-Wave button 3 times as quickly as possible (the LED indicator will start flashing). The Z-Wave button is located next to the battery slot and the LED indicator is in the corner of the device
  7. Wait until the sensor stops flashing the LED indicator. A few seconds later, the app will display a new device on the screen. It may show the following message: "Some security features not supported" - just click OK and ignore it, as this will not impact the functionality or performance of your device.
  8. Click Done

If your ZSE43 sensor is having trouble being added, begin the exclusion process to assist with any configuration or inclusion issues. It can be done even if the unit hasn't been added before:

  1. Open your SmartThings app and locate your SmartThings hub under Devices. Tap the hub to see the device details.
  2. Tap the three dots in the upper right hand corner and tap Settings

  3. Tap Z-Wave Utilities
  4. Tap Z-Wave Exclusion
  5. While the app is searching for a device, click the Z-Wave button 3 times as quickly as possible
  6. The app will indicate when the device is successfully removed. Tap Done
