While the ZEN06 Smart Plug is a super reliable solution for enabling your lamps and small appliances with remote Z-Wave control, not all types of devices are a good fit for the device.
The ZEN06 Smart Plug can safely be used with:
- Floor lamps
- TV’s and Audio / Video Equipment
- Computers / PCs / Laptops
- Alarm Clocks
It cannot be used with:
- Washers
- Dryers
- Refrigerators
- Electric heater
- Phone or battery chargers (use the USB ports instead)
- Transformers
- Humidifiers
- Fans
- Motor loads in general
The devices listed above are simply too powerful for the ZEN06 Smart Plug to handle, or the type of electrical load is incompatible. While the ZEN06 Smart Plug is rated for 15A, the issue is with high inrush current or the amount of power a motor draws at start-up. In our user experience, most Z-Wave plugs on the market are damaged immediately or over time when used with motor loads. Similarly, even smaller inductive loads, like phone chargers, can damage Z-Wave plugs over time due to inconsistent power draw.
