Can't Add My ZEN34 Remote Switch to Home Assistant

If you're having issues including your Remote Switch to Home Assistant, exclusion is the first thing to try; exclusion is like a soft reset: 

A device doesn't need to be included first to be able to be excluded.

 

Here's how to do it: 

  1. In Home Assistant: open Settings Devices and Services Z-Wave JS > Configure
  2. Click on Remove Device
  3. Click on Start Exclusion
  4. Tap the lower paddle of the switch 6 times very quickly (the LED indicator will start flashing)
  5. Home Assistant will confirm that the device was removed, and you should now be able to add it to your system

After exclusion is confirmed, try adding the device back to Home Assistant again. 

 

If that didn't work, here are some troubleshoots we find helpful: 

  • Try the exclusion process again! It's possible the exclusion commands from the first run weren't registered correctly. 
  • Try the inclusion process again, this time tapping the upper paddle 6 times as quickly and firmly as possible. This can help make sure the commands go through.
  • If you attempted to add the Remote Switch in Secure Mode initially, try adding it again in non-secure mode to rule out any configuration issues related to security levels. 
  • Double check that the switch is powered: you should see the LED indicator react to paddle presses.
  • Try bringing the switch closer to the hub, especially if there was a large distance initially. If you have a hand-held secondary controller, this would be the time to bring it out! If the switch connects from the new spot, it's likely that the original location was out of range or there was some type of interference in that location. 
  • If you don't want to move the switch to a new spot and you have a Z-Wave signal repeater available (switch, relay, smart plug, dedicated repeater - any Z-Wave device that doesn't rely on battery power), we'd recommend moving it between the switch and hub and then healing the network. This can help in case there is an interference or range issue preventing stable communication between the two nodes.
