Can't Add My ZSE40 4-in-1 Sensor to Hubitat

If you’ve tried the inclusion process and your ZSE40 Sensor won’t connect with your hub, then it may be time to try to exclude it.

The exclusion process acts as a soft reset for the ZSE40, helping with any inclusion or configuration issues. You can do this even if the ZSE40 4-in-1 Sensor has never been included to Hubitat: it will simply confirm the exclusion of an “unknown” device. Before you try to remove the device, make sure your Hubitat platform version is up-to-date. Then proceed with the steps below:

  1. Open Hubitat in your Internet browser

  2. Go to Devices

  3. Click on Discover Devices in the top right corner

  4. Click on Z-Wave

  5. Click on Start Z-Wave Exclusion

  6. While the device is searching for a device, press and release the Z-Wave button TWICE as quickly as possible with a paperclip

  7. The app will indicate when the device is successfully excluded.

After you’ve completed the exclusion process, try connecting the ZSE40 with your hub again using these steps. Here are some other tricks to try if your ZSE40 still won’t add to your hub:

  • It’s helpful to try the exclusion process a few times in case the commands don’t go through on the first try.

  • You can also try to connect to Hubitat again, but instead of pressing the Z-Wave button twice, press it 6-7 times as quickly as possible and as firmly as possible for the command to go through.

  • A Z-Wave signal repeater (or any non-battery powered Z-Wave device) may need to be added to fix range or connectivity issues between the 4-in-1 Sensor and Hubitat. If you have a hand-held secondary controller, like a Z-stick, you can use it to try and pair the device with your hub.

  • The 4-in-1 Sensor may connect to the hub but still not respond to remote commands, an issue we’ve found to be solved by these connectivity troubleshoots in the past.

If your ZSE40 still won’t add to your hub system no matter what you try, send us a message and we can help.
