Can't Add My ZEN27 Dimmer Switch to Hubitat

If your ZEN27 Dimmer Switch won’t add to your hub, then you need to try to exclude it first.

It sounds like a strange suggestion, but removing your ZEN27 from the hub first can help fix any problems it may be having with inclusion, even if it’s never been included to your hub. The app will simply confirm an “unknown” device was excluded. Before giving the process a try, check to see if your Hubitat is operating on the latest platform version. Once you’ve checked, use these steps to exclude:

  1. Open Hubitat in your Internet browser

  2. Go to Devices

  3. Click on Discover Devices in the top right corner

  4. Click on Z-Wave

  5. Click on Start Z-Wave Exclusion

  6. While the device is searching for a device, tap the Lower Paddle 3 times as quickly as possible

  7. The app will indicate when the device is successfully excluded.

Once you’ve tried excluding, you can go ahead and try pairing the ZEN27 with these steps. If you’re still having trouble connecting the switch to Hubitat, give these tricks a try:

  • You can try to exclude the switch again. This is helpful in case the commands didn’t go through the first time.

  • When going through the inclusion process, try tapping the paddle of the switch 4-5 times as quickly as possible, in case it wasn’t processed in 3 taps.

  • Your switch may be having trouble communicating with Hubitat if it is installed far away. You can add a Z-Wave signal repeater or another non-battery powered Z-Wave device to the network, between the switch and hub, to extend range. If you also have a Z-stick or hand-held secondary controller, you can use it to then add the ZEN27 to the hub.

  • If the switch is not responding to any Z-Wave commands despite being paired with Hubitat, then you may need to check out these connectivity trouble shoots.
