How to Program Your ZEN37 Wall Remote on Hubitat

After you've added and assigned the correct device type to your Remote Switch, you'll be able to program the buttons to control other devices or trigger scenes. Here is an introduction to the process.

At the moment, you'll only be able to use the button controller features of the device since direct association is not available on Hubitat yet.

Each button on the ZEN37 sends a unique Scene Number, allowing Hubitat to recognize which of the four buttons was pressed. What makes this controller especially versatile is its use of Key Attributes, which identify the type of interaction—such as a single tap, double tap, hold, or release. These combinations of Scene Numbers and Key Attributes give users granular control over automations, enabling one button to perform multiple functions based on how it's pressed. For example, a single tap might turn on a light, while a hold could dim it, and a double tap could activate an entire scene.

The easiest way to program the Remote Switch is with the Rule Machine app:

1. Click on Apps in the side menu

2. Click on "+ Add Built-in App" in the top right corner

3. Select Rule Machine

4. Click on the Rule Machine app under Apps now that you've added it

5. Click on Create New Rule > Enter a name for the rule > Click on Select Trigger Events: Click to set.

6. Click + Create New Trigger Event.

7. Under Select capability for new Event Trigger, select Button.

8. Under Button Device: Click to set, select the Remote Switch (as you named it) and click Update.

9. Enter the Button number you'd like to use as trigger. The Single tap is buttons 1-4 in accordance with the mapping above, then just +4 for each extra number of presses on each button. See the chart below for an example:

Select the button trigger under Button pushed/held/doubleTapped/released. Click on Done with this Trigger Event.

10. Add any more triggers or conditions to the automation and click on Done with Trigger Events.

11. Click on Select Actions to Run: Click to set and follow the prompts on the screen to select the devices or scenes you would like to control with your button trigger.

12. Click + Create New Action.

13. Under Create New Action, choose what type of action you want to add to the Rule.

14. In this example, we've elected to Control Switches, Push Buttons. Select the action; we've selected Toggle Switches.

15. Select the switch you want to trigger with the action part of the rule. We've selected the ZEN71.

16. Choose if you want to add a delay to the scene. When finished, click Done with Action.

17. You can add new actions, conditions, or variables. When finished, click Done with Actions.

18. Review the rule summary. When finished, click Install Rule.

19. Add any notes or make any adjustments. When finished, click Done.

20. Your new rule will be listed under Rule Machine.

21. Wake the Remote Switch up by clicking the upper paddle 7 times quickly (the LED indicator will remain solid blue for 30 seconds or until you press any of the paddles)
