Can't Add My Multisiren to SmartThings

Exclusion is just like a reset, and can help with a variety of configuration and connectivity issues. Let's try exclusion first.

Depending on if you're using the SmartThings Classic app or the newer SmartThings app, the exclusion process looks a little different. Devices don't need to be included properly to be able to be excluded. Depending on the app you're using, check out the steps below.

For the SmartThings Classic App:

  1. Tap the menu icon in your SmartThings app
  2. Tap Hub is online
  3. Tap Z-Wave Utilities
  4. Tap General Device Exclusion
  5. The app will show this message: “Please follow the manufacturer’s instructions to remove the Z-Wave device from My SmartThings.” There will also be a spinning circle next to the message “Exclusion Mode Active”
  6. Click the Z-Wave button 3 times quickly
  7. The app will confirm device exclusion
  8. Tap Done

For the new SmartThings app:

  1. Tap on the Devices tab
  2. Select the SmartThings Hub
  3. Tap the three dots in the top right
  4. Tap Z-Wave exclusion
  5. Click the Z-Wave button 3 times quickly
  6. The app will indicate when the device is successfully removed. Tap Done

Once exclusion is completed regardless of which app you're using, try including the siren to SmartThings again.

If exclusion didn't make a difference, here are some other solutions that have worked for users in the past:

  • Try the exclusion process again! Sometimes commands from the first run aren't registered correctly, so sometimes this can help.
  • Try the inclusion process again, only this time instead of clicking the Z-Wave button 3 times, click it 4-5 times as quickly as possible.
  • Try including in a non-secure mode if you attempted adding it securely the first time.
  • Bring the siren closer to SmartThings to verify it's not a range issue
  • Double check that the device is powered and that the batteries are oriented properly.
  • If the unit is generally unresponsive, try performing hard reset on it and trying the inclusion process again.

But if you're still seeing issues with the exclusion/inclusion process no matter what you try, let us know! Our team will be happy to help.
