How to Add your Power Strip VER. 2.0 to SmartThings

Depending if you're using the Classic app or the newer SmartThings app, the inclusion process is different for each interface:

As of November 2018, SmartThings is in the process of transitioning between the SmartThings Classic app and the newer SmartThings app. You'll need to install BOTH custom device handlers for the Power Strip regardless which app you're using, but just know that you'll only be able to customize the Strip using the Classic app with the handlers. The new SmartThings app currently doesn't give access to any device's advanced settings. You'll have basic functionality though!

If you haven't added a custom handler before, we got you. The handler is a piece of code that enables the Power Strip's advanced settings and makes sure the device is configured properly. The process takes less than 5 minutes - here's how to do it.

Once the handler is installed and shows up in your IDE portal, you can include the Power Strip to your network. Here's how to do it with the Classic app:

  1. Plug the Power Strip into a grounded receptacle you’re planning to use it at (it doesn’t need to be close to the hub)
  2. Put SmartThings into inclusion mode by clicking "Add Thing" in your app
  3. On your Power Strip, click the CH1 button 3 times quickly - all of the LED indicators should start flashing
  4. You will see 8 new on/off devices in your app: 5 channels for on/off control, 2 channels for on/off monitoring (USB ports reporting charging/ charged status, no control), and one master node to access and adjust advanced settings in.

Here's how to include the Power Strip using the new app (once the handlers are installed):

  1. Plug the Power Strip into a grounded receptacle you’re planning to use it at (it doesn’t need to be close to the hub)
  2. From the Dashboard, tap Add device
  3. Android: Tap Add Device Manually
  4. Select the Outlet category and then any Z-Wave plug, regardless of brand. With the device handlers installed, the Power Strip will be recognized correctly.
  5. If you have more than one SmartThings Hub connected, select the Hub you'd like to connect the device to
  6. On the Power Strip, press the CH1 button 3 times quickly
  7. The app will indicate when the device connects
  8. Tap Edit to rename the device, and tap Done to save the name
  9. Tap Done to complete the setup

If you're having issues including your Power Strip to SmartThings, we'd recommend excluding the device using the instructions here
