Ensure your new ZEN55 DC Signal Sensor works well in your installation!

  • Use with any standard interconnect smoke and/or CO alarms.
  • Always turn off the power at the breaker before handling the wiring, this is a 120 V high-voltage installation.
  • The last detector in series will be the one that only has 3 wires coming into the box (vs 5 or more in other boxes). This is where you'll have the most space to install your smart device at.
  • When adding the ZEN55 relay to your hub, you may need to scan the QR code or enter the PIN code located on the back of the relay (if your system supports SmartStart). Read more about adding the device to your hub here.
  • Test the detector's alarm (follow the instructions for your unit) to see if the status of the device changes in your hub's interface once the alarm goes off. Remember to warn your family members or roommates when testing this!
  • Always turn the power off when securing the module and the detector back in the electrical box.
  • You'll need to create an automation in your hub for a notification to be sent to your phone or email once the status on the ZEN55 changes so you can immediately know if the alarm is triggered.

The key to any successful installation is preparation! Before beginning the installation, read the instructions included with your ZEN55 and gather the tools you'll need. Check if additional wire or wire nuts are needed to complete the installation. The recommended wire gauge for your installation is 14 AWG as used in most standard 120 V installations. Other basic electrical tools you may need on hand for the installation include a voltage meter and electrical pliers.

Important: Before installing the switch, make sure the ZEN55 is suitable for the location. The maximum load for the ZEN55 is 10A.

Here are a few additional items to check before installing your DC Signal Sensor:

  • Use the correct wiring diagram! We have wiring diagrams for various installations. If you are unable to match the wiring, please send us images of the wiring available and we will verify if the ZEN55 can be installed in that location.

  • Connect the neutral. Your ZEN55, similar to the Zooz switches, needs a neutral to be installed. If you're not sure whether you have neutral in the box, reach out to us

  • Ask a professional. For safety reasons, we don't recommend installing the device yourself if you're not comfortable with an electrical installation. If you're able to, hire a licensed professional to help with the installation.

  • Contact us for help. What's on our diagrams might be different than what's in your box. In that case, we'll be happy to help create custom wiring instructions for you. Just submit a ticket with your order number for the unit (so we can verify the model; you can send us an Amazon order number too!) and images of the wiring available (so we can send the most accurate directions).

Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions about your ZEN55 DC Signal Sensor!
