How to Add Your ZEN17 Universal Relay to Your Z-Wave System

Once you have your ZEN17 wired up and ready to go, it's time to include it to your Z-Wave system!

Before including your device, ensure the ZEN17 is properly powered. The power supply only provides power to the Z-Wave chip and electronics within the unit. Therefore, the power supply doesn't need to be rated for a lot of power,

  • USB C with a 1 A Power Adapter plug (you just need a USB-C wall adapter, the USB-C cable is included with the device)
    • The power adapter must be a basic 5V / 1A USB-C power supply. Do not use Apple chargers or any USB PD (Power Delivery) adapters, as they may output higher voltage and damage the device
  • 12-24 V AC/DC adapter (or any other 12-24 V AC/DC power supply)
    • We highly suggest testing the output voltage of your power supply, especially when powering the ZEN17 from a 24V transformer. We're finding many newer transformers that are rated for 24V are actually outputting more than 28-29V, which will damage the ZEN17.

There are a few ways to describe it, but inclusion is a common term for pairing or adding a device to your Z-Wave system.

Here are the steps for including your ZEN17 Universal Relay:

  1. Make sure that the unit is powered by a proper 12-24 V or USB C power supply.
  2. Put your hub into inclusion/pairing mode in your app's interface (each hub is different, so refer to the hub's manual if you're unsure about the process)
  3. Click the Z-Wave button on the device 3 times very quickly (LED indicator will start flashing)
  4. Your Z-Wave system should confirm the device was successfully added.

* If you’re using an S2 hub, it will ask you to enter the DSK PIN or scan the QR code printed on the device.

If you're having trouble including your device, the first thing you should try is excluding the unit and then giving inclusion another go.
