My ZEN06 Smart Plug Shows "Can't Detect Device" in Vera

If you're getting the Can't Detect Device error in your Vera app, this may indicate a range or connectivity issue.

If your ZEN06 Smart Plug shows Can't Detect Device in your Vera app, first try to Update Node Neighbors. This is a troubleshoot feature in Vera's interface that allows you to refresh the connections between hub and devices, and may help Vera find the most efficient route to your Smart Plug. Here's how to Update Node Neighbors.

1. Use a computer to log into and select your hub.
2. From the Dashboard, select Settings
3. Select Z-Wave Settings
4. Click on the Advanced tab
5. At the bottom of the advanced tab, you'll see a GO button to run the “Update Node Neighbors”. The process can take several minutes or over an hour depending on the size of your Z-Wave network.

If Updating Node Neighbors doesn't help, try bringing the Smart Plug within direct range of your Vera hub. Plug it into an outlet near the hub, and then exclude it  and re-include it. If the Smart Plug connects and stays connected without issue, it's possible the previous location is out of Vera's range or there are too many interferences around.

Another thing to try is to exclude and re-include the Smart Plug from the installation location. Similar to the idea behind Update Node Neighbors, it's possible that Vera hasn't found the best communication route to the Smart Plug. This can sometimes happen when you include a device near the hub but then move it away to be installed.

Finally, check that your Smart Plug is installed in a spot without too many metal elements surrounding it. Metal effectively prevents Z-Wave signals from being sent and received. If you notice your Smart Plug is surrounded by metal, try moving it to a different location to see if that helps the issue. We also recommend checking out this short troubleshoot guide about the optimal installation location and how Z-Wave range works.
